Ratio: 1 teacher to 6 children

Our Junior Preschool program focuses on encouraging social interactions, fostering language development and supporting self-help skills such as mealtime and bathroom routines. Teachers encourage independence as children learn to verbalize wants and needs. Children also develop their social skills, pre-math, pre-writing, creative art and fine and gross motor skills.

In our Junior Preschool Program, we focus on seven of the nine key domains of development:

• Social/Emotional: Establishes and sustains positive adult and peer relationships; begins to manage feelings; follows limits and expectations; responds to emotional cues; interacts with peers and makes friends; begins to solve social problems
• Physical: Demonstrates balancing skills, gross-motor manipulative skills; begins to demonstrate fine-motor strength and coordination; uses writing and drawing tools
• Cognitive: Attends and engages; shows curiosity and persistence; attempts to solve simple problems; shows flexibility and inventiveness in thinking; remembers and connects experiences; begins using classification skills
• Language skills: Comprehends language; recognizes and vocalizes words; follows instructions; engages in conversations; asks questions
• Literacy: Notices and discriminates rhyme; interacts during reading experiences and book conversations; retells stories and recounts details
• Mathematics: Counts; understands shapes; recognizes patterns
• Arts: Recognizes colors; explores musical expression; explores dance and movement
